Lifting weights as a woman is a one-way ticket to feeling like a badass.

Once I realized that lifting heavy wasn’t going to change my body in ways I didn’t desire, I fell in love with the gym on a whole new level. (Hi, can we all just drop it with the whole "you can’t lift weights! You’ll get so bulky!" myth?)

If you’re like me—one of the only women picking up weights over 10 pounds at your gym—then I’m pretty sure you can relate.

1. Why haven’t scientists invented an easier way to work out yet?

Seriously. As much as I love lifting, wouldn’t it be awesome if there were a way to eat as much as I want and feel great without ever moving a muscle?

2. ...am I doing this right?

Imposter syndrome is totally real, especially when you’re surrounded by people who are way more jacked than you are.

3. You’ve got this. Just act like you belong here.

They can smell fear. If I keep my head down and headphones in, no one will talk to me.

4. Is this dude really trying to tell me how to lift?

Hands up if you’ve been mansplained at the gym, ladies. And dudes? Just… no.

5. Um, excuse me? I was waiting for that machine.

Gym etiquette is real, people! There’s a reason they teach you how to stand in line in kindergarten, yet somehow that all goes out the window at the gym. Also: Re-rack your weights. Unless you’re an octopus, I’m pretty sure you don’t need eight dumbbells at one time.

6. Think anyone will notice if I skip a shower?

I’m not sweating; it’s just raining inside.

7. Man, I nailed it.

Bring on the food—it’s time to refuel.
